Latch Release Actuator

Latch Release Actuator

Latch Release Actuator

Latch Release with 1.5 pounds of force using shape memory alloy wire. This was used as a payload release mechanism for a large military drone.

This is a payload release on a life-cycle test fixture. Cycling against a 2-pound spring, powered by a 9V Duracell Lithium battery. An Arduino-based controller provides power for 0.150 seconds, then resting for 10 seconds before repeating. The onboard MOSFET switching and protection circuit senses the End Of Stroke position, and cuts power to the SMA wire to prevent overheating.

Solid State Pump or Valve Actuator / Valve Controller

Solid State Pump or Valve Actuator / Valve Controller

Solid State Pump or Valve Actuator

An embedded coil, 12 layer spiral as shown, can be used to move a magnet which could be used to create a very small solid state pump (for air or liquid) or valve system arrays. Using standard printed circuit board (PCB) more than 1,000 of such devices can be printed on a single panel. These coils shown are 15 mm x 15 mm.

Solid State Submersible Solenoid Actuator Operating Under Water

Solid State Submersible Actuator

Operating at 1/3 Hz to 3,300 Hz using an H-Bridge driver and an Arduino Uno operating at 12 Volts. This demonstrated the ability to operate in water and shows that the water cools the device enough to operate at high speed and high force.

Credit Card Scale High Force Nitinol Actuator

We have found that printed circuit boards (PCB) are great substrates on which to build Nitinol actuators. Using standard PCB design and assembly technology, high precision components and circuitry can be pick and placed along with actuator components. This allows for applications to be volume ready. This design features our patented technology that multiplies the stroke of single wires allowing for longer strokes in small packages.
